Inizialmente si cimentò in progetti aeronautici ma presto passò alle automobili. La vettura più famosa uscita dalla carrozzeria fu la Lombardi Grand Prix commercializzata in seguito anche con i nomi O.T.A.S. e Abarth. Francis Lombardi sviluppò versioni quattro-porte delle Fiat 600, 850 e 127 aggiungendo, per distinzione, l'appellativo "Lucciola" alla sigla dell'auto. La prima fu la 600 "Lucciola" che fece la sua prima apparizione agli inizi del 1957. Aveva le porte posteriori che si aprivano "controvento" con sistema privo del montante centrale. Il più grande successo commerciale della Francis Lombardi fu sicuramente la lussuosa Fiat 500 chiamata "My Car" che fu prodotta in 6000 esemplari negli anni 60 contro i 1500 degli ultimi anni 50. L'azienda cessò la sua attività nel 1973. The Carrozzeria Francis Lombardi was founded in 1947 in Vercelli, Italy, by noted pilot Carlo Francesco ("Francis") Lombardi. They originally engaged in some aeronautical design, but this soon ended. Their most famous car was the Lombardi Grand Prix, which was also marketed under a variety of other names such as O.T.A.S. and Abarth. Francis Lombardi also developed four-door versions of the Fiat 600, 850, and 127. This series of small four-door saloons was called "Lucciola" by Lombardi. The first one was the 600 Lucciola which appeared in early 1957; it had four doors without a B-pillar (the rear door opening backwards). Francis Lombardi's greatest commercial success was with the luxuriously appointed Fiat 500 called "My Car"; which supported an annual production of about 6,000 cars in the sixties, up from about 1,500 towards the late fifties. The company was closed in 1973.
